How To Change Your Voice - Part 2:

HOW TO USE YOUR CHEST VOICE

There are two different types of students that I tend to work with. The first type tends to have deep, low, monotone voices (chest voice). They typically sound sad, too formal, stern, or angry, and can have a hard time connecting with people because of this. For this first group, it’s important to create more variation in their tone. The alumni lesson on Pace is a perfect lesson for these students to study and review. The second type of students, which tend to be the majority, want to sound more mature, sure, and confident. In this case, these students need to learn how to utilize their chest voice. The following will provide you with exercises and strategies to help you learn how to have a chest voice:

1.Breathe a.Breathe from your diaphragm b.Practice deep chest breathing c.Exhale using the diaphragm

2.Tone a.Practice low tone i.warm up your voice (“ahhhhhhh”) starting high and ending low. ii.with a low note - hold “low” iii.with a low tone - hold “welcome” iv.with a low tone - say “welcome”

Do these exercises before you start your daily practice.

YOUR VOICE
In this lesson we will cover the quality of your voice and discover what your voice is saying about you. What does the quality of your voice say about you? The quality of your voice can describe you in many ways. It can make you sound mature, calming, casual, unsure, authoritative, exaggerated, etc.

HEAD VOICE vs CHEST VOICE
There are two different ways that we identify the quality of your voice: one is ‘head voice’, and the other is the ‘chest voice’. It all has to do with where your voice is resonating—or where you are feeling a vibration. The head voice resonates more in the head, and the chest voice resonates more in the chest. In other words, we’re talking about the tone of our voice. People who have a head voice are using higher tones, and those who have a chest voice are using lower tones.

Amazing secret of English rhythm:

The trick to getting the rhythm of English right is all to do with the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables when we talk. We speak in a pattern of iambs - an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable. Speech that reflects this natural rhythm feels like music to our ears. When speech does not reflect this rhythm, it is difficult to understand and sounds unpleasant to native speakers.

Pronunciation Technique For People with a monotone voice:

It's not always easy for Asian speakers of English to show emotion in their voices. It may be difficult to have the same tonal range that native speakers of English have, due to the English language having a different use of tone to Asian languages such as Mandarin.

In English tone is used to convey feelings. A single word can have many different interpretations, depending on the tone. Not understanding nor applying tone can make the English speech of Asians appear to be without emotion and if monotone, hard to understand.
